Bay City Kitchen in Bay City

It’s fitting that Bay City Kitchen is the first thing most visitors see when they arrive in Bay City: community is at the heart of this small but mighty restaurant. Owners and chefs Derek McCarthy and Kathy High say they prioritize local, seasonal products, embrace creativity and change, and work to cultivate a warm and welcoming space for neighbors and visitors alike.

Chef Derek demonstrates those commitments beautifully through his cooking: his constantly evolving menu includes sandwiches, small plates, and platters that feature fresh-caught fish, seasonal vegetables, and locally foraged specialties. Chef Kathy’s baked goods are the embodiment of whimsy, celebrating seasonal fruits and creative confections. As their menu states, and as you will come to believe, “cookies have power.”

They offer pantry staples like quality coffee and locally made hot sauce, and a grab-and-go freezer full of last-minute dinner ideas, including soups and broth, pizza dough, and their exceptional lasagnas.

But where Bay City Kitchen truly shines is its Sunday Supper series, a fixed three-course menu that is updated weekly to showcase what’s in season. Sunday Suppers include a salad, entree (choose between fish, vegetarian or meat option), and dessert, each designed to bring out the best of our region’s fresh, locally sourced foods. Pair your meal with a drink from their thoughtful wine list or assortment of local brews. Sunday Suppers fill up, so call ahead to get on the list, or try your luck at the community table.
