Neahkahnie Smokehouse in Wheeler

Originally a booth at the Manzanita Farmers Market, the Neahkahnie Smokehouse opened as a brick-and-mortar business in a small space in Garibaldi before relocating to their permanent home in downtown Wheeler. Perched on the banks of the Nehalem River, they are now well positioned to share the bounty of our local waterways.

The Smokehouse offers an impressive selection of smoked salmon options, the recipe for which they say is just “brown sugar, salt, and lots of love.” They sell other locally caught smoked fish as well, including tuna and black cod. Locals rave about the smoked salmon chowder. You can also choose from a changing menu of fresh-baked goods; or better yet, indulge in a combination of the two, with salmon hand-pies and salmon sushi bakes, or smoked salmon on a fresh bagel.

Dine under cheerful red umbrellas at tables lining the riverbank, where you can enjoy the view of Nehalem Bay. Or incorporate the Smokehouse into your next picnic or adventure: choose from a wide variety of takeaway items. Try the smoked cheeses and the candied salmon for snacking, or bring a side of salmon mac salad to wow your fellow diners.

The Smokehouse is known to sell out, so arrive early or call ahead to make sure you get your hands on this cult-status smoked salmon. Come back often to take advantage of the rotating menu of creative specials, new desserts, and a bountiful selection of free samples.
